The Lido is a long, narrow island situated between the Venetian Lagoon and the Adriatic Sea. Just a few minutes from the historic centre, it offers a completely different side to the city: wide, tree-lined avenues, gardens, Art Nouveau villas, golden sandy beaches and a slower pace of life, which is particularly pleasant on summer days. 
It is the ideal destination for spending a few hours by the sea, going for a stroll, cycling or discovering a lesser-known side of Venice – one that is elegant and deeply connected to nature.

A day at the seaside
From the landing stage at Lido Santa Maria Elisabetta, walk along the Gran Viale to the seafront. Here you’ll find well-equipped beach clubs, restaurants, bars and stretches of public beach. The beaches at Lido and Alberoni have once again been awarded the Blue Flag in 2026, recognised for the quality of their waters, sustainability and the services on offer. 
Art Nouveau villas and film locations
The streets around the Gran Viale and the seafront are home to numerous villas built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, featuring Art Nouveau decorations, hidden gardens and refined architectural details.
Continuing towards the Lungomare Marconi, you reach the Palazzo del Cinema, the former Casino building and the area around the Hotel Excelsior – iconic venues of the Venice International Film Festival. 
Exploring the Lido by bike
The terrain is flat and particularly well-suited to cycling. From the central area, you can head south along the seafront, crossing the Murazzi and reaching Malamocco and the Alberoni. The Lido can also be pleasantly explored on foot, taking in quiet streets, gardens, the beach and views of the lagoon.

The Murazzi are the ancient stone barrier built by the Republic of Venice to protect the coastline from the force of the sea. Today, they form a long coastal promenade, which is particularly picturesque during the cooler hours of the day and at sunset.

The village of Malamocco


Malamocco is one of the most authentic spots on the Lido. An ancient village dating back to medieval times, it still boasts narrow streets, small squares, little bridges and houses overlooking the water. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a miniature Venice, quiet and far from the most popular tourist routes.

L’Oasi degli Alberoni


At the southern tip of the Lido lies the Alberoni nature reserve, part of the European Natura 2000 network. The area comprises a long beach, natural dunes, a pine forest and habitats of particular environmental value. It is one of the most beautiful places for those seeking an authentic experience of the lagoon and seascape.

How to get to the Lido from Cinqueteste
From Cinqueteste, you can reach Piazzale Roma in about five minutes on foot. From here, the most convenient option is:
ACTV Line 6 – Piazzale Roma → Lido Santa Maria Elisabetta
This is the most direct route. Under the current timetable, it departs from Piazzale Roma, Pier E. Timetables are subject to change, so we recommend checking them on the official AVM Venezia app before setting off. 
Alternatively:
ACTV Line 2
During the summer season, the service is extended to the Lido via the Grand Canal. This is a more scenic option, ideal for those who wish to turn the journey into a short tour of the city from the water. 
ACTV Line 1
It connects Piazzale Roma and the railway station to the Lido, crossing the entire Grand Canal. It is the slowest route, but also the most scenic.
All these routes arrive at the Lido S.M.E. – Santa Maria Elisabetta landing stage.

Venice in Summer

Summer in Venice can be very warm.
We recommend going out early in the morning or later in the afternoon, avoiding the hottest part of the day.

Bring water, sunglasses, a hat and comfortable shoes.
Walk slowly, look for shaded streets and take breaks when needed.

In the evening, Venice becomes cooler, more peaceful and particularly beautiful.
